I just appreciate your honesty about your experience of the holidays. I’m not like you … I am gleefully giddy about the holidays and then gradually (EVERY YEAR) worn down and down and down until a week before I’m like .. IS IT OVER YET?!?!? I am obsessed with all four Cecilia Grant books, and you’ve made the holiday novella (and, ahem, yours!!) two of the bright spots of my holidays.
Thank you for sharing. And vulnerability. It’s been rough for me this year trying to get in the holiday spirit. I feel a lot of those same things. Even comparing myself to the me of last year or the year before.

I take time to read my favorite holiday books for kids- How The Grinch Stole Christmas, the Red Ranger Came Calling, Christmas Day In the Morning, Humphry’s First Christmas. This book is perfect perfect perfect!!! I am so glad I took your recommendation a few years ago because now it’s my holiday tradition too. I wish it were in paperback too so I could give it to my PPB-only sister
Yes it’s an extraordinary novella! I recommend it to a lot of people.
I also don’t love Christmas time. I think anyone who has lost loved ones feels that grief amid an atmosphere where you’re surrounded by people being “most jolly”. As a procrastinator December represents the chore list from hell.
I am now at the point where I can say I really enjoy certain Christmas songs and seeing decorated houses on my walks. A fun rom com on Hallmark or Netflix. So I try to pick and choose parts of the season I enjoy. And yup -- Christmas novels and novellas are the best! Like yours, Kate!
