Really appreciated hearing about balancing non-writing work and writing. I just have one job and a boyfriend, and I'm already feeling like adding writing my first novel to that is hard! But you make me feel it's doable.

Also, I listened to the Heaven, Texas audiobook last week, and it gave me enough joy for the whole dang month.

Thank you for sharing. I was surprised to find out that you have a FT job outside of writing. I thought you were a FT author. I don't know how you do it! So impressive! Hugs to your sweet old pup.

Thank you for this post; I read without subscribing so I could get a feel for what I would be getting into. I just finished my first (not last!) of your works, Love Lettering, blubbering away at my day job desk many many minutes after my lunch break should have been over, thinking "I can never write a book like this," despite all my best efforts. Anyway, I loved it and thank you for bringing it into the world and also having this forum!

I always enjoy hearing about your writing process. My context has required me to take a prolonged break from writing and now I'm at the point where I have story ideas but lack motivation to get started. The kindest thing I can do for myself is to START but there's the rub. In any case! I'm going to be pondering all this as we go into this next week.

Also: the icing on the cake was the update on your sweet doggo!

thank you, Leigh -- I was thinking of you and your Kinsale crew when I was writing about how books can help you find a group of friends!

I do so hope you find that path to getting started again! 🖤

Yes, I really enjoyed The Diplomat as well! I think the hair in this show was an homage both to Felicity and to the many hair and wig disguises on The Americans. (My husband did keep commenting that he wished she would comb her hair but I think it's possible he was unaware of the Felicity hair uproar...). I hope there's a second season, but with the writer's strike it might never happen. I really loved Rufus Sewell as her husband- I know he had major character flaws, but he was just so deeply appealing and in love with her.

So excited for the new book!

PS: I am the biggest fan of your Levi (I know there will likely be others who claim they are as well); he's the hero of the year so far for me.

Thank you for your kind comments on Levi!

I also found the character of Hal to be equal parts compelling and frustrating -- he is hugely flawed and I could also see how he has been able to sustain a relationship for so long, because he is very charming! It was great characterization.

Thank you for such a refreshing and relatable take on writing in the margins without a system. I’m looking forward to your new book next year.

I really appreciate this! I also have to express my creativity in the margins of my life, so it's really encouraging to see what others can accomplish as well. One of my favorite audiobooks from this year so far is My Soul to Keep by Tananarive Due - love a good thriller!
